FAQs for Business Associates

I am a Business Associate with access to protected health information of a Covered Entity in Texas.  Which of the three offered webinars do you recommend that I take to receive both the required federal and Texas privacy and security training?

We recommend that you take Part 1 and Part 2 to receive the training required under both federal law and Texas law.

Can I take just Part 1, or do I have to take Part 1 and Part 2?

We recommend that you take the webinar training for both parts.  However, you can take either Part 1 or Part 2 alone. You will receive a certificate of training for any of the webinars that you view.  However, you will need both Part 1 and Part 2 to receive the training required under both federal and Texas law.

What is the focus of the training in Part 1?

Part 1 focuses on HIPAA/HITECH and the Omnibus Final Rule on the federal side and Texas Privacy laws affected by Texas House Bill 300 on the Texas side.  All Business Associates in Texas should have this training.

What is the focus of the training in Part 2?

Part 2 focuses specifically on the HIPAA Security Rule that pertains to all electronic protected health information.  All Business Associates’ decision-makers should have this training to understand the requirements for computer networks containing patient information.  We also recommend that workforce members have this training to understand the risks, the importance of the Security Rule and maintaining the security of electronic patient information.

What is the focus of the training on Texas Privacy Laws and HB300 webinar?

The Texas Privacy Laws and House Bill 300 webinar focuses on specific Texas privacy laws and how they were amended by Texas House Bill 300.  This webinar does not provide any training on federal laws.  We recommend that Business Associates who already have the necessary federal training, but who still need training on the Texas side, take this webinar.

If I take the webinar training in Parts 1 and 2, do I also need to take the Texas Webinar training?

No, the Texas privacy training is included in Part 1 along with federal privacy training.

How long do I have to view the webinar after it is purchased?

You will have 30 days to view the webinar.  You should set aside the appropriate amount of time to view the webinar in one seating since you will not be able to fast forward through the webinar to where you stopped previously.

How do I get a copy of my Certificate of Training after I have completed my review of the training webinar?

You will see an instructions page at the end of the webinar.  At completion, you will take a short quiz. Once you have completed the quiz, you will have the option to print your course certificate.  Print the certificate and attest to your attendance by signing it.  You should maintain it for 6 years.

What do I do if I lose my Certificate of Training?

You can come back to our website and click on the Log In button in the upper right corner and enter your user name and password. Once you are logged into your account, you will have the option to reprint any certificates for courses you have completed.
